You can get exactly zero information from a license plate so why are people so weird about somebody videoing their plate ? Unless you are law enforcement you can't access the system with the plate info.

People are getting upset about being filmed in public, even though there’s generally no expectation of privacy in public spaces. The reality is that technology is moving in one direction. Before long, many people will likely be wearing AI-enabled smart glasses that continuously record photos and video, and it will become as common as carrying a smartphone is today. Whether we like it or not, public recording is becoming a normal part of everyday life. Instead of assuming bad intentions every time someone has a camera, it may be worth recognizing that this is where society is headed.

I find it fascinating that people will allow complete strangers to have total control of their emotions and what they do physically by simply having a camera in public. Even though there are hundreds and thousands of cameras filming them every day people act like that’s not really happening that part.
