All the adults that interact with my daughter are shocked how well spoken and smart she is and usually gets free things. Like this lady just reached into her purse and gave her a coin purse 😅

This is one of the best gifts she could give you in life. Social anxiety is like being trapped in your own mind, its horrible. I’d love to hear more about your and her experiences!

I’m going to do this with my kiddos as someone who grew up like your mum! Simple things like asking the kids to order their own food - letting them use their own voice instead of speaking for them can go a long way❤️

My daughter is so confident naturally. She compliments people randomly, asks for things at shops, just starts talking to people which is sometimes awkward for me because I’m just stood there awkwardly like er hi 😅

my mom made me do the same thing but it didnt affect me in a good way at all instesd i started being more scared, what helped me was me myself taking small steps to get out of my comfort zone, not someone else asking me to do it

Yes! Having them order their own food at restaurants. Asking store employees if they have things their size or a certain color they want/need. Kids also need to learn to advocate for themselves in a kid’s respectful way.

it happened to me to, I was super shy, now it is very easy to communicate to anybody, don't know what exactly happened, maybe I just realized there is nothing to be shy about

aw. I think she also should give herself grace as an immigrant to a new country!! That takes so much time to overcome. My mom had the same experience.

My phone is listening to me again! I’m building a lesson plan around this exact topic-how English language learners can use the grocery store to practice English. My lesson would’ve been perfect for your mom back in the day!

Thats great! ✨ Because I have social anxiety and I don’t want to pass it on to my children. I want for them to be confident. Takes a lot of practice!

During my childhood and teen years I was awfully shy, I felt anxiety doing like the most basic social interactions. I met my besties at 18 and they did things like going to the bathroom when we went eat out, so I was the one who had to order, or if we were with other people they left for some minutes so I had to talk with people I didn't know that well. At first it felt terrifying, but now I'm grateful because I became able to talk with anyone and stand for myself.
