The nickel also prevented rust, so the meteoric iron was actually found in much better condition than any of the rusty early iron pieces from the start of the Iron Age

my immediate assumption was that the Bronze Age refers to what was widely used, not necessarily ONLY used. so him having an iron weapon was a status-symbol because it was so rare and/or smithing with iron was such an unknown skill at that time. but man, meteorite dagger is WAY cooler

As a blacksmith and pro knifemaker I obviously know this absolutely astonishing piece. But! What makes me really, really full of admiration is the skill of craftsman who made it. Not because it is iron blade in bronze age but because it's a meteorite. It's structure is extremely brittle while forging, it's like trying to hammer a cold glass. It requires a lot of knowledge and skill to actually forge a meteorite into a ductile piece to forge a blade. Absolutely amazing piece.

They always had iron, it’s abundant & easy to smelt. Bronze is just a better metal than iron, it’s stronger, less brittle & doesn’t rust. But it also requires tin & copper. So making bronze required extensive trade routes. The Bronze Age ended when a mysterious catastrophe destroyed almost every major civilization in Europe, west Asia and North Africa. The trade routes fell apart, copper and tin became expensive & hard to come by, so people started using iron instead.

Iron was the Valyrian steel or vibranium of the ancient world. Iron tools and weapons was around throughout the ancient world pre Iron Age but it was just rare and localised forging until eventually it became common
