penalty isn't about 'can you shoot?' it's more to 'can your mental handle it', no matter if you can score 10/10 penalties on practice, but if in match your mental is dropping the chance to score become 0, that's why sometime when a player walk to the spot you can already guess they'll miss based on their expression

in the pro level the keeper (in most cases) CANNOT wait for you to shoot and then make a decision 😭 they need to predict where you will shoot and then catch it, so those shots can easily be saved.

Those would get saved, keepers dive early nowadays. There’s a reason players try new tricks to try and make the goalie react early, it’s a really good way to increase success rate. Aiming for corners as such is very risky and in high pressure situations, missing the net is a matter of when, no matter how good pros are. The pens this World Cup explain it perfectly, players who missed the pens (most of them) did so because they tried to place it in the corners and missed (can’t forget GABRIEL for ARSENAL 💀✌️)
