OK I got it, theyre the same dino. But the "crocodile mimic" is THE NAME for a type of dinosaur like him. Now changing him cause the name cristatusaurus was a few months older is kind nonsense to me. He translated to "crested reptile" wich is blank and boring cause many other dinos have similar name for a reason. Also suchomimus is more more popular for big or not big dino fans for years. So just change the name cause it was a few months older is not the best excuse. I also prefer the name Suchomimus, I want to keep calling him Sucho, I grown up with that name. Its just more popular, make more sense, its literally for me one of the best names to a dinosaur.

Considering I've only heard of Suchomimus (as well as a large amount of people online), it seems like a no-brainer to keep the more popular name.

I think everyone is just mad about the name, “Crocodile Mimic” is a drastically cooler name than “Crested Lizard”, and there is precedent for using the more popular name in a scenario like this.

If it gets confirmed that they’re the same animal (suchomimus is still suchomimus for now) then cristatosaurus should be a senior synonym. Just like trex and manospondylus. The ‘earlier name wins’ rule isn’t set in stone and exceptions can be made.

Instead of just making people like palaeontologist just name it what about the community about the people who chose to like dinosaurs? Why can’t they just make a vote? Just vote which name they want instead of somebody just saying well it’s gonna be like this just because.

Dumb question, but wouldn’t every spinosaurid sorta be a “crocodile mimic”? Due to most spinosaurids being found near waterways and having similar features to crocodilians?
