@tompkinsconservation: BEAUTIFUL SIGHTINGS OF SOUTHERN RIGHT WHALES This season began with an encouraging number of sightings of southern right whales, an iconic species in the waters of Patagonia Azul, reaffirming the importance of this region for marine wildlife. Photo-identification work allows @Fundación Rewilding Argentina to recognize each individual through the unique markings created by thick white calluses on their skin. This research generates detailed information about the whales’ movements and behavior, data which focuses conservation efforts. Patagonia Azul is becoming more and more celebrated as a sanctuary for marine life and a region where conservation and local development based on wildlife-watching go hand in hand.
