I bake my kids elaborate birthday cakes every year for their birthdays. I do NOT have the skills of a pro or even a really good amateur, but every year I am reminded why professional cakes cost so much. It is an all day activity that takes hours of labor, not even accounting for the ingredients to make the cake, or the costs of all the pans and tips and everything else!

Never justify yourself! Charge and stand by it. Period. If someone can’t afford it, that’s ok. Your work and art are valuable.

Charge less. It helps customers. Custom cake prices typically range from $40 to $100+ for small gatherings, scaling to $150 to $400+ for large, multi-tier events. This tiny cake should be somewhere between $40-100. I bet you could work with a business advisor to produce a more appropriate pricing model.

I am a baker myself and people will always complain about prices. That’s fine, they’re not the clientele you’re baking for. And honestly, I thought that was a fairly priced cake, if not slightly under priced.

This is so simple, if you would rather buy a cake from walmart then do that. 225 is not that much for a custom cake! Lets say it takes 5 hours (some take waayyy more) thats 45/hr which is nothing especially depending on where she is. She isny an employee, shes a business owner, with over head and bills and shes not making 100 cakes a week. how do yall expect her to make any money!

I paid around 300 for this 8 years ago in Brampton. It was Huge. I thought I got it for a steal. I would have paid more.

If you want a regular cake go to Costco or Sam’s. Want a beautiful decorated cake. Then pay the baker for their work.

thats like telling an electrician the job was easy and only took an hour so they shouldn't be charging $150/hrs plus materials. They are charging you for their knowledge. Same with this. She is charging what works in her area and for her skills. Dont like it? Shop elsewhere.

That cake was beautiful and I am sure time consuming. It was well worth the $225. It may be a cake but there is more to it than just the ingredients. Your time and creativity should be included in that price. People have no clue!

Your cakes are a little pricey but again they are beautifully done and I’d much rather have one your cakes than some that other lady was posting that were $60! They looked tacky and yours are so elegant and beautiful!! Keep doing what you’re doing girl! ♥️

Technically profit IS paying yourself, you don’t pay yourself and also profit which would be double paying yourself. I mean do what you gotta do but you might want to talk to a CPA
