@wwww_horseprints: Wildfires aren’t an accident in the sense that they’re disconnected from human behavior. They’re consequences. When a relationship is built on exploitation followed by severe neglect, the result is abuse. Forests are no different. We extracted from them, interrupted natural fire cycles, simplified ecosystems, and replaced resilient old-growth forests with vast expanses of dense, immature stands that are primed to burn. Historically, many forests experienced frequent, low-intensity fires that cleared the understory while leaving the oldest trees standing. Fire wasn’t absent.. it was part of the system. Catastrophic landscape-scale destruction wasn’t the norm in many of these ecosystems. Then something even stranger happens. Disaster becomes economy. #wildfire #forest #fire

They want us to feel responsible for ignition, when the fuel is the problem. These people play the long game. The small logger was killed off for “environmental” reasons, and now that the right people will get rich—it’s time for it to burn, get sprayed, the. get planted with one or two species for the profit of few. It’s all a game. Us poors often don’t see the long game being played the way it’s played.

In CA it’s a lot of the environmental groups that don’t allow cleaning of the brush and forests. I think a lot of our fires here are on purpose not by the fire department but by the government who wants to take over the land.

How can it be called an accident when it’s really just what happens when you treet all the unique forest lands like a tree farm and cow pasture instead of an intricate ecosystem

Poor wildland management is the root of the issue. When it became harder to do controlled burns in sections of forest to reduce the layer of ground duff, we couldn’t do the controlled burns as often and that is the entire reason wildfires are so destructive now. We need to focus more on training wildland firefighters to responsibly conduct management burns and the destruction caused by wildland fires will be significantly be reduced.

I had to bring horses in and try to block out the outside because of how bad the air is in Utah. It’s literally raining ash.
