1) You need a plan Turning up to your session and winging it makes it impossible to track progress on a weekly basis. Instead, pick a simple template and repeat it for 12 weeks. 3 day full body days or an upper lower 4 day split is perfect to start. 2) Progress isn’t doing a harder workout,  it’s the same workout with better numbers Harder workouts (ie, ones that make you breathless) don’t necessarily mean more muscle. To grow, keep the same key exercises for a few weeks and track them: work in a rep range, add reps until you hit the top, then add a little weight and repeat. 3) Resting is part of training If you’re rushing your sets because you feel weird standing about, you’re cutting yourself short. Take enough rest so you’re ready to give your all to your next set. 1–3 minutes between sets (sometimes a bit longer) should be fine. Take frequent rest days throughout your week. 4) You don’t need to be destroyed for it to “count” Being sweaty or sore doesn’t (necessarily) build muscle. Hard sets with good form finished 1-3 reps shy of failure does.   5) The goal isn’t “fat-burning workouts”, it’s building muscle + consistency Don’t structure your routine around building as many calories as possible. Lift weights to build muscle (body shape), walk (or do your favourite form of cardio) for health, and manage your food intake for fat loss. 6) Nutrition doesn’t need to be extreme, just consistent You don’t need to restrict yourself Monday – Sunday to be in shape. You simply need to hit your protein, add fruit veg and high fibre carbs to your plate, and eat enough calories to match your goal. Aim for ~20–35g protein per meal (or 1–2 palm-sized servings, depending on your overall intake). Don’t overcomplicate the rest. 7) Gym confidence innate, it’s continued exposure No one in the gym started with that level of confidence (okay, maybe one or two). They built it up over time. Try to do one “brave thing” per session. For example: First week: learn machine setups Next week: try free weights The more you expose yourself to the environment, the more confident you’ll feel in it over time. #gymbeginner #gym #beginner
