@v.tpk: Replying to @v.tpk Please note I am not African but am trying to be as fair as possible. There's no way to pull off a project of this size without some ecological harm, so we have to decide if the harm to the environment is worth the lives that could be saved by giving them access to electricity. The political issues are understandable, as well–would you trust your oldest enemy with your most valuable resource? Would you trust someone who's wronged you before to be kind and generous? This is one of those situations where there is no exact right or wrong answer, and the solution lies somewhere in the middle. #gerd #infrastructure #investinafrica #learnwithtiktok #historytok
the political context also matters a lot. in 2011 the arab spring happened. egypt as a result has had multiple switches of government up to 2014. Even now Cairo does not have a strong hold over the country. In 2011 South Sudan became independent as well from Sudan Followed with internal turnoil and RSF having basically autonomy in Darfur for a long time which resulted in the current civil war. Sudan saw the benefits but they also had objections. because of the political situation ethiopia basically didn't have to worry about any real military interventions
