🚨 Handling management favouritism👇 Feeling like you’re missing out on opportunities because your manager has favourites in the team is a horrible feeling. In this situation our instinctive reaction will often be to argue our case and criticise because it feels unfair. I wouldn’t recommend this approach because it’s likely the manager will get defensive and close down the conversation leaving you with no negotiation opportunities. Instead I would recommend trying to influence them and help them see your perspective. Rather than focusing on the unfairness focus on the benefit of them extending the opportunity. Linking it to your objectives can be a good way to approach this. Here is an example of how you can phrase it: “In my appraisal one of the areas we both agreed I need to get more experience with is XYZ and doing [INSERT] would be a great opportunity for me to gain some experience in these areas” This will help raise their awareness of your perspective. Then you can ask them if they would be open to allowing you the opportunity or allowing it to be shared. It’s also worth noting that the easier we make it for someone to say yes the more likely we are to get a yes so always good to propose solutions/ alternatives 👏 📌 Please remember the advice offered in this video is generalised and will not fit every situation. Therefore please use your own judgement when using this advice and adapt it to suit your situation. You’ve got this 💪 💬 Have you ever missed out on opportunities due to management favouritism? Share your experiences in the comments 👀 💾 Save this for when you might need it ✈️ Share with someone you think this could help 🚀 Follow for more tips on handling tricky situations at work #worktips #leadershipdevelopment #corporatelife #emotionalintelligence #communicationskills #manager #conflictmanagement #difficultconversations
