__________ 🇬🇹Processions in Guatemala started during the Spanish colonial period and over time became an important part of the country’s culture. About 20 to 100+ people carry them at a time, switching every 5–10 minutes because of the weight. Everything is accompanied by an orchestra and incense, and it can last for hours or even the whole day. Along the route, people create alfombras — colorful carpets made of sawdust and flowers — which are destroyed as the procession passes, symbolizing how beautiful but temporary these moments are.
