Christopher Nolan slander has never made sense to me. Like sure his movies aren’t for everyone, but people who act like he’s pretentious for liking the medium he works with and respecting the audience he markets to is just so… weird.

I think this is a smart move. They probably saw the backlash over the costumes and certain actors and knew the reception it would get. Nolan is serious when it comes to his movies.

Nolan doesn't need a bunch of influencers who know nothing about film to go view his work for validation to fans. people know how work is good and will go see it. honestly the only reason he does screening for critics is because it's just how the studios release it for their publicity run

I think one important note is that a critical review doesn’t necessarily need to be (or even can be) unbiased. There’s a clip of Roger Ebert where to summarize the long conversation he had with Siskel, effectively said that the critic must acknowledge that they were the one that saw the movie and by extension acknowledge what they felt. A truly well written review should be able to convey what the critic felt but still be informative enough to tell the audience if they think they want to see the film or not. In many ways, a commercial review both pretends to be unbiased and tries to tell you a movie is good or bad and incline you see a movie or it based on exactly what they think. A critical review can acknowledge it is bias (directly or indirectly) and if the critic still liked the movie while giving you enough information for the audience to decide if they want to see it. A critic shouldn’t necessarily be telling you definitively if you should or should see a movie but rather tell you what you need to know so you can decide to see a movie or not.

I don't listen to critics. I don't listen to influencers. None of them will give me what I need to know on how good a movie is. I watch movies and make up my own mind. If I at any time listen to anyone, it is someone I know who shares my taste in the specific changere. But that will seldom change if I watch a movie or not.
