@mira_is_psyched: Replying to @Zthe0 Forgot to upload last night after we (deservedly) lost, but here is Part 1 of how German soccer has reshaped and crucially defined our patriotism - starting in 1954. #worldcup #fifa #germany #2026 #History
My husbands Oma could not even discuss WW2 or the aftermath in Germany. Just physically could not. People just don’t understand. Thank you for sharing. Love your content

If this finds you, as always, it would mean a lot if you could push some buttons, share this, leave a comment, anything 🫶 and please let me know if we want a series on German soccer and how it’s shaped our patriotism? ⚽️

As soon as I saw your shirt I knew this would be about Bern. Also, side note... For the longest time, I thought it was das Wunder von Bernd, and thought some kid called Bernd was the wunder.

Thank you for this piece of important history. 💜💜💜
Was that the literal invention of football cleats or was this an Adidias modification?

I was in Berlin in 2014 when Germany won the World Cup. Having been in SF when the giants won, it was a significantly less destructive celebration full of earnest joy. I was there with my then partner, who was doing research in the former GDR foreign ministry archives. He speaks and reads German in addition to Russian, Chinese, Arabic, and like 5 other languages and had a killer summer there. The backdrop was his grandparents met after they were freed from Auschwitz and his mother spent the time he was there riddled with almost inherited anxiety. It’s interesting to experience many truths at once in moments like that where the past looms large over moments that other countries experience without having to unpack the complexity of where pride in one’s national identity meets the inherited trauma of someone else’s.

Days of old forgotten.. days of new vivid with deep despair and divid.. When the weight of the present eclipses the warmth of the past I find challenging to draw a sense glee however beautiful the past has shaped the present. 🙉🙊🙈🥲

The history of humans is an incredible thing. Understanding that heart strings are formed in childhood and the body always remembers gives us so much grace. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful piece of history

I can fully understand the anthem mix up, people still sing "God save the Queen" and she's been dead for nearly four years
