@somalitography7: In November 1958, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester visited the British Somaliland Protectorate on behalf of the British Crown during the final years of colonial rule. The visit was marked by ceremonial welcomes, meetings with local leaders, and official celebrations intended to showcase the Protectorate as stable and loyal to Britain. Behind this display, however, lay decades of colonial domination. British rule had been enforced through military campaigns, collective punishment, confiscation of livestock, destruction of settlements, restrictions on movement, and the suppression of anti colonial resistance, culminating in the aerial bombardment of Taleh in 1920. Colonial policies largely served imperial interests while leaving limited investment in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. As the Duke and Duchess toured the Protectorate, nationalist sentiment was growing, and Somalis were increasingly demanding self government.
