COPY AND PASTE TO INTERACT‼️A lot of people only know Venezuela from headlines, memes, or political arguments online, but very few actually understand what Venezuelans have been through for decades. Venezuela didn’t become a crisis overnight. Years of corruption, economic mismanagement, political repression, and the destruction of democratic institutions have forced millions of people to leave their homes and start over in other countries. In 2017, the world watched as thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets to protest for freedom, democracy, and basic human rights. Many young people, students, and ordinary citizens risked everything because they wanted a better future. Families lost loved ones, people were imprisoned for speaking out, and countless Venezuelans were forced to flee because they no longer felt safe in their own country. People often ask, “Why don’t Venezuelans just fix their country?” as if the situation were simple. It’s not. When a nation faces years of political instability, shortages, inflation, and repression, ordinary people suffer the consequences. Many Venezuelans have gone through things that others cannot even imagine struggling to find food, medicine, electricity, or opportunities.
And now, after everything Venezuela has already endured, an earthquake has brought even more pain and devastation. Families have lost their homes, communities have been destroyed, and many people are desperately in need of food, water, medicine, and shelter. It’s heartbreaking to watch a country that has suffered so much continue to face tragedy after tragedy.
What hurts many Venezuelans the most is the lack of understanding from others. Not everyone is educated about what is happening in Venezuela, and that’s okay no one can know everything. But before judging Venezuelans, making jokes, or spreading stereotypes, please take the time to learn our history and listen to our stories. We are not just headlines or statistics. We are people with families, dreams, and a deep love for our country.
Please use your voice. Share information, support humanitarian efforts if you can, and remember that empathy costs nothing.
