Nancy Ng, a 29-year-old teacher's aide from Monterey Park, California, vanished in Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, on October 19, 2023, while attending a yoga retreat. Guatemalan authorities stated she drowned while kayaking, but her family continues to seek answers due to conflicting witness accounts and delays in reporting. // The Incident: On the morning of October 19, 2023, Nancy Ng and others from her retreat group went kayaking on Lake Atitlán. According to the sole witness, she and Ng advanced deeper into the water, where Ng stated she wanted to swim, which led to her drowning. The tour group and witnesses waited approximately 24 hours to report the incident to local authorities. Her kayak was recovered, but no sign of her was ever found. // Search Efforts: Local fire and rescue officials, along with a privately hired search team (Black Wolf Helicopters), extensively scoured the lake and its surroundings. Helicopters, drones, and boat crews covered 95% to 99% of the lake, but found no trace of Ng. The Guatemalan government halted search operations in November 2023, but the family's push for answers continued. (RIP)
