He was my uncle’s (RIP) best and only friend during high school (Neil McNeil Toronto). My uncle had cerebral palsy and was very self-conscious about it. My grandmother told me John Candy was probably the only reason he made it through. They used to go to Toronto Argos games together and I think those were some of his best memories from growing up. John Candy was a good man from even a young age.

My fiancé and I watched the documentary “I Like Me” a few months ago and it was fantastic. I cried so often.

I met him briefly around the time he did Stripes. I treated him like any random guy, just saying hello. he stopped and looked at me a little funny, so I winked at him. he got it immediately and rushed up to me, acting like I was a celeb and he was a fan. it all played out in about a minute, but it was fun

The 'I like me' monologue in 'Planes, Trains, and Automobiles' ends me every time. 😭 Even with all the love he gets as a person, I really think not enough people realize how great of an actor he was.

Before her passing, Catherine O’Hara talked about having a dream with John Candy in it where they’re catching up, and Catherine says to John “But John, you passed away years ago.” And John replied to her in her dream “Ah jeez, why’d you have to bring that up?”

I recently saw a doco with Steve Martin where he was going through his script collection and pulled out his copy from ‘Planes, Trains & Automobiles’. He starts talking about Candy then suddenly stops, and shoves the script back on the shelf with tears in his eyes. Candy’s friends still feel that loss decades later 😢

I was going to RIOT if you tried to tell me John Candy was not a great guy! He is one of those rare Hollywood personalities that everyone seemed to love because he was just a genuinely good and kind person. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is my annual Thanksgiving watch 🥰

John Candy was the first celebrity death that affected me. To this day I miss a man I never knew. Uncle Buck and The Great Outdoors are top tier comedy.

"Delirious". It is a lesser known role of his. He has a head injury and wakes up as a character in the soap opera he writes for. What makes it fun is still has his typewriter with him and can alter the script for everyone else. Extra fun when he does it drunk 😁💙
