Maybe I'm a little cynical but for me, love should motivate the development maturity, skills, competence and discipline to be a partner. Performing acts of kindness while consistently opting for the path of least work isn't love, it's getting your needs met.

it confuses me because if u love your partner, u show it in ways thats aren't fundamentally self fulfilling, like affection. its not enough to say you love someone and then just do nothing for them. same with caring. its not enough to say you care about someone without doing the caring. care is an action, not just a feeling. I'd say that if all u do is feel care, u dont actually care for them.
