Leave NY. Born and raised in southern Orange County. Bought our home in 2010 in Orange County. Kids graduated high school and we moved to PA. Our money goes so much further here. There’s life outside of NY. I promise. Also, I’m only 42, so not a boomer who had all the benefits of buying a home in the 80s. And no, no one helped us buy an our home. We had an FHA loan.

I grew up in the area I live. Houses that sold for $150-200k existed 15 years ago and are now selling at $400k plus. One floor modular homes.

grew up in the hudson valley, still here, bought a house, sold a house and bought a brand new home/build. it is doable it just takes a lot of sacrifice and hard work. you'll get there. 🙏

If you charge someone $3000 per month to rent a small house 1900sqft in Southern Westchester or Rockland you lose money. $13000 in property tax and $9,000 in school taxes just to start. Why rent to lose cash?
