BTW, lower fat content ice cream freezes harder than higher fat. There are more premium, high fat ice creams now -- if you want it hard, as it were, go for the cheap stuff.

No ice cream hasn't gotten soft. Freezers have become better at regulating temperature, we don't have to crank them all the way up to stay cold.
