@observationswithmyeyes: I absolutely believe in tipping when it is the local custom and the service is at least satisfactory AND I used to overtip because: 1. too much compassion/empathy because I know that tip based jobs are harder than the general public acknowledges. 2. Fear of strangers being annoyed with me🤯 💡Now I notice when people try to rush me through these transactions of escalate to “prickly”. 💡This is why I tend to choose places that are already calm and I ask them to explain all of the costs up front. Unfortunately, an overly nice attitude paired with “don’t worry, we will figure it out” has usually meant someone becoming pushy or hostile later if I had follow up questions or confusion….#lifelessons
Ugh yes, I have an issue with this still. I definitely relate to the feeling of fear over strangers being mad at me, but I’m working on realizing even if they are mad over a smaller tip, it’s not the end of the world and I’ll be okay🤷🏼♀️

I refuse to tip for takeout (unless I get a special favor or during lockdown). The expectation for more than 20% from restaurant/bar staff is a trend I’ve noticed that’s actually insane to me. It’s especially frustrating seeing service workers complain about less than 20% being too low while bragging about being able to make 4 figures a week. I only tip on beauty services otherwise. TikTok also put me on to the preset % is also often bad math. I need to check more.
