@hungryheart_therapy: Perfectionism is such a hard one because it IS nice when things are “perfect” or exactly how you expect/imagine It crosses over into inconvenient when it’s not just a goal to be perfect or have something be perfect/go perfectly, but it feels like a NEED Of course it’s nice for the house to be clean when guests come over, but it becomes extraordinarily stressful when it feels like if there is dust on the baseboards or spots on the bathroom mirror that it means something about YOU That’s when perfectionism becomes more about what it does for you as opposed to just a preference. If you’ve learned along the way that keeping/having things a certain way means you are worthy of love/belonging OF COURSE it’s going to feel life threatening if the guests see the dog hair in the corner Check-in with yourself are you a “perfectionist” as a preference to strive for nice things/experiences OR does it feel extraordinarily disappointing or unacceptable when you/things are not perfect?
