Not the customer's problem. Employer should pay a proper wage, if they can't, they shouldn't be in business.

It’s so odd that the employer doesn’t want to pay their employees properly. They want customers to pay their wage. Then they wonder why so many restaurants are closing.

It should be illegal to pay your staff less than the MINIMUM WAGE

Question for Americans: Does anyone protest in your country about employers paying a liveable wage or does everyone just accept it as normal?

So owners are charging 30-40$ per meal (not including tip or taxes) and are paying their staff 2.13$ per hour? Also servers expect tips no matter what it’s absurd. In Canada they make minimum wage but still want tips

Just because the minimum wage is $2.13 doesn't mean you can't pay more than that as an employer

FYI in America the only get 2 dollars an hour so you had to tip they depend on it. If it’s a waitress then your tip 20% at least.

It is not consumers responsibility to pay the workers. An avg server gets paid $10-$15 an hour here. This is a good reason why people doesnt go there

The American wage system isn't something to be proud of,people should be paid a liveable wage without relying on tips 🙄

The tipping system explicitly shifts the primary responsibility of paying the worker from the business owner to the customer. I'm from the US and do not agree with this. Just do not feel obligated.

Meals in the US should be so much cheaper considering how little servers are paid. Somebody is making the $ and it's not the staff.
