'What's one thing you'd want me doing differently in the next 30 days - that if I did it, would make the biggest impact?' Notice the shape of that question. It's not 'how am I doing.' It's not 'what's my feedback.' Both of those get a shrug. This one forces a choice. It forces a single answer. It forces them to commit. If they still dodge - say 'no rush, take a few days, I'd really value it.' Then follow up by email: 'As discussed, I'd love your one piece of feedback by the end of the week so I can action it.' You've just turned a vague conversation into a written commitment. On their terms. In your calendar. Managers who 'forget' to give feedback usually haven't forgotten. They just don't want the conversation. Make it easy for them, and impossible to avoid. Send this to yourself as a Reminder and follow for more.
