the real question is...why are DC animated films always so peak? and why can't they translate that creativity to live action? Also the new Superman was sooo mid but for some reason it gets a pass.

it was so disappointing, not just from gunn's dc but from the source material, I beg anyone, please read the woman of tomorrow comic by Tom king and bilquis everly that this film is based on, it is miles better than any superhero movie from marvel or dc the art is stunning and it tells a genuinely emotional and impactful story you will be thinking about for years to come the same cannot be said for the movie sadly (love the cast tho, genuinely perfect can't wait to see them in the future)

As a seperate point not to dismiss this, its odd how people criticise james gunn so much more than the heads of marvel whem arguably they have made worse projects. Theyve admitted to not liking hulk, put directors who dont like the characters in charge of the films etc

its crazy how when james gunn is running dc theres this seperation of how well the projects are doing versus kathleen kennedy being crucified for star wars quality decline. James gunn needs to address the fact that doing these random spinoff movies isnt the genius strategy he thinks it is. mcu started with movies based on the most important avengers. it didnt start with iron man and then immediately do an ironheart movie. supergirl shouldve been a wonder woman movie directed a by woman director.

You want to know something crazy that I do have to hold James Gunn and Peter Safran's feet to the fire for? The composer wasn't brought on until THREE months before the movie premiered. They changed composers TWICE during production and something similar happened during Superman. The composer probably didn't even have enough time to score the whole movie which would explain the egregious needle drops. They need to make Michael Giacchino some kind of multi picture offer or SOMETHING to get the music together. Supergirl not even having her own theme in her debut movie for this universe is embarrassing.

I think that honestly, this is probably a good learning lesson for him in terms of being a studio ahead because he’s never been there before and he’s never been like an executive producer or anything within that capacity. I think it’s good. This happened early. I think that some adjustments definitely need to be made within the structure of how he’s doing things. I think that it’s a good learning lesson for him as a studio head and hopefully from this point it gets better.

It’s funny bc if Supergirl was good, and critically/commercially successful, they’d be quick to give him most of the credit. He himself said he read the script for this and fast-tracked the movie.

i feel like gunn, after MoT, needs to either lock in solely as the producer and never personally write anything again, or find a third producer who's got a handle on things better than he does, if he's still adamant on working behind the camera.

he also could have chosen a female director. that was a choice. I HATE him bc much fans hyped him up to think hes god when it comes to film and he does NOT understand these characters like that. im tired of okay, or subpar movies, from pretentious film makers who promised they would eclipse the competition with quality BLAH BLAH BLAH
