By putting the clasp in between the two pieces, doesn’t that mean only the stitch is keeping the clasp from being pulled out? If you put the clasp on one of the side pieces, at least then the cotton would help keep the clasp more secured when in use?

You (most likely) can move your needle left and right to get closer to the edge while still using your presser foot as a guide. Great project!
