But, to use your analogy, animal control is not police, so when you send animal control instead of the police, the point is that you are funding animal control more by taking money away from the police. You are literally defunding the police to fund other departments. I believe in this policy wholeheartedly and to be effective you need to take money from an overbudgeted police department to give to better causes.

Police should always have mandated training their entire career from learning takedowns, deescalation and also the law itself. I’m fine with cops not having law degrees but they should be taught about the laws far more
