@unbridledfreedomrescue: They told me to put him down within 24 hours of his rescue. They saw one clip and decided he was too far gone. They called me cruel for keeping this horse alive. They said I did it for clicks, views, donations, sympathy. So I could say “look what I did, he’s still alive!” But they don’t know Salem like I do. They didn’t get to see what I saw in him when I brought him home. I’ve had horses tell me they were done. And I listened. I did the kind thing when I needed to even if it broke my heart and I sobbed all the way home. I got Salem settled in and I worried constantly. Checking on him late at night and early in the morning. Convinced that spark would be gone and I’d have to do the hard thing that nobody wants to do. But every day I showed up, Salem showed up too. Not at 20%. Not at 50%. He was 110% there and ready to enjoy another day in his brand new life. His ribs are slowly softening, his energy is building up faster than I thought possible. He’s ready to prove everyone wrong about him. And if the day comes where he’s done proving his point, I will be there to help. The horses will always tell you. The horses know best.
