The title being "Running of the Interns" was truly not something that should be overlooked. It felt like a historical moment was perfectly captured and documented.

I was with my partner. we wanted to be married for many years and couldn't. I would cry myself to sleep at night knowing we would never be able to just share our love and exist the same as any other couple. I literally felt so hopeless and invalidated. we had been together since 7th grade. she had proposed years ago and when it finally became legal, we rushed to get married. we were the first lesbian couple to be married in Charlotte, NC. I expected hate and instead I got people volunteering to capture our moment, photographers, news crews, children who's parents took them to the court house just to witness history, the live band playing, the officiants volunteering. it was so magical. literally the impossible became possible overnight and I cried in disbelief that a buried dream had come true.

i was 14 when the ruling happened and dreaming of leaving home and cutting off my queerphobic mom. now i’m 24 and my mom took me to my first pride a few years ago, buys anything vaguely rainbow that she thinks i’ll like, and celebrates my transition milestones with me. i wish i could go back ten years and tell him that he’ll be okay.

I remember how quickly my moms call each other to confirm they're meet at the Courthouse. So, they could marry before the law could change their mind. When they signed their papers and they walk outside, immediately they were congratulated by supporters, there was even an LGBT friendly priest there to officiant couples who got married. It was wonderful witnessing them getting married at 14.

I was on my phone refreshing the page every couple minutes trying to see what was happening. I cried nonstop when I saw the mass wedding that happened that day. Hundreds of queer couples got married that day and I was so happy for them.

I was 20 when it happened, living abroad & working in a country where it wasn’t legal to be myself. Watching with bated breath as every intern sprinted with every morsel of energy they had. It was the culmination of decades of activism and advocacy. They understood the importance of what this day meant for all of us

I was 11 and my best friend had 2 moms who had been together longer than I had been alive but could not get married. My first thought was how excited I was because now they could be married. They’ve been married ever since.
