@rooted.brynn: I love being a social butterfly, but sometimes it comes at a cost. I would fill my time running from event to event. but in always showing up in these different morphs, I never truly got to understand who I was at my core. I was always shifting, as we all are, to fit the social setting. when you are constantly morphing, a subtle distrust begins to seep in, and spending time alone becomes uncomfortable because you have to sit in the ambiguity of it all. so even when you are not with people, you distract yourself. you numb. tv shows. scrolling. substances. it’s only when you face the ambiguity and allow who you are to slowly reveal themselves to you, that trust is formed. you begin to learn who you are without all the noise. ways to get to know yourself: journal often (annoying advice I know), don’t wait for others to do the thing, learn what fills your cup or brings you curiosity and show up often, take yourself on a date once a week. the trust will come, and with it the intense inner knowing of who you are. this is not an admonishment of community or friendships either. we need our communities and connections more than ever right now. but life is balance. fill your own cup before asking others to fill it for you. sometimes you need the extra help, sometimes you have nourished yourself so well you are overflowing with help to give to others. it is scary to learn how to be alone, but it begins with small steps and the time will pass anyways
