Little Baobab is bringing a taste of Senegal to London from their restaurant at The Africa Centre. Went for lunch and we had: 🇸🇳 Mains - Thiebou Yapp (£15) - Thiebou Dienne (£15) 🇸🇳 Snacks - Fataya with lamb (£7) - Plantain (£3) 🇸🇳 Dessert - Beignets with chocolate sauce (£6) - Chocolate millet cake with peanut caramel sauce (£5.5) 🇸🇳Drinks - Fresh Bissap juice by Little Baobab (£5.5) This was our first time trying Senegalese food and it was good overall. Was particularly curious about the jollof rice and how it compares to Nigeria jollof. The flavour is more on the subtle side and tomato rich. If you like more flavour/spice like me, I recommend adding their chilli sauce the rice. Both the lamb (Thiebou Yapp) and fish (Thiebou Dienne) were tender and flavourful so I’d recommend either and pairing your dish with plantain and fresh bissap juice- a hibiscus drink similar to zobo/sobolo but both minty and sweet. We also liked the fataya with lamb and tomato onion sauce- similar to meat pie and you can also have it with fish or falafel filling. The Senegalese beignets were our preferred dessert- fried crunchy on the outside and like bread/cake on the inside. Wasn’t a fan of the cake however, especially the texture as it was dry. If you haven’t had Senegalese food, definitely check out Little Baobab. It’s a chill restaurant but also found the service to be a bit slow.
