My kids were little we went to church for regularly for about a year. I am so ashamed to say that we went to a southern Baptist Church that believed that children are born with accountability. I was naïve and I taught this to my daughter who was only 4 Years old at time years down the road we were talking about ways that our parenting might’ve hurt them sometimes in the past and I brought this up to my daughter and cried and profusely apologized to her for it. She didn’t even remember, but she thanked me for apologizing. I will say about two months later after my son threw a tantrum at church to the church leaders gave me the book to train up a child after reading a few parts of it. We immediately left the church and never went back. I threw out the book and never mentioned any thing else like that to my kids.

I was for sure traumatized by being a cradle catholic. When I think back to how I felt as a child in the church and the religion the overwhelming feeling I had was fear followed by shame and then guilt. That’s been fun to heal from!

As a Christian I agree with the take that yes its not very Christ like to be yelling out " your going to hell" out in public places isnt a very productive way of getting people to convert, the message should be spread with love and care to others. However I do not agree with the take that Hell is an " irrational or stupid " view. Often times we hold the view that we are prefect people who dont deserve hell, but when you really look at yourself and go through all the sin in your life you begin to realize that you actually do deserve Hell. I came to this realization early on and all it did was make me Love God more because he was willing to endure the suffering that I deserved. Its a transformative idea that teaches you how ur actions have consequences while also encouraging you to become better and more accountable for those actions.
