It's my opinion that gold is under pressure because markets are treating the Iran conflict as inflationary rather than purely as a safe-haven like it would during a tradtional conflict. Disruption risk around oil and the Strait of Hormuz can lift inflation expectations, which supports the US dollar and increases expectations that the Fed may keep rates higher for longer, or potentially raise them. A stronger USD and higher creates bearish pressure on gold, as gold pays no yield. So the conflict itself is not directly bearish for gold, but the inflation, rates, USD reaction to it can be. Historically, I feel we have being seen a gap up then a big push down and new lows created. I see potential support at 3500 should we continue making new lows, but i'm keen to see the open on Monday morning.
