What if nothing is wrong with you?❤️ I found myself surrounded by zebras, and I, a horse, had always loved my coat. I never questioned it. Every morning I would run through the fields before stopping by the same little pond. I’d watch the sunlight dance across the water and admire the horse looking back at me. I never wished for stripes. It had never crossed my mind that I was supposed to look any different. Until the zebras noticed. Every day they would ask me, “Where are your stripes?” At first, I laughed. But after hearing it enough times, I began to wonder if they were right. Every day I passed the same pond, but it seemed my reflection was changing. Not because I looked any different, but because I had begun seeing myself through their eyes. What I once loved about myself slowly became something I was ashamed of. Eventually, I stopped looking at my reflection altogether. One day, I found a pile of fallen leaves, damp and beginning to rot. Carefully, I arranged them around my body, weaving them into stripes. As I looked at myself in the water, there they were. The stripes that were supposed to make me happier. The stripes that were supposed to help me belong. Certain that this would finally be enough, I walked back to the zebras. They snickered. This time they laughed at the colour of my stripes. They laughed that I smelled of rotten leaves and dirt. Suddenly, I became aware of my smell too. They cast me out, laughing as I ran and ran. I didn’t know where I was going. I simply followed my heart with tear-filled eyes. Eventually, I reached a clearing. It began to rain. The leaves slowly fell from my body until there was nothing left to hide behind. As I looked ahead, I saw horses. Horses that looked just like me. Without stripes, just like me. They welcomed me, and not once did they ask where my stripes were. I had finally found myself surrounded by love and accepted for who I was, without anyone asking me to become someone else. Maybe sometimes it’s not us that needs to change. Maybe it’s the environment we’ve been trying so desperately to belong in. Maybe we’ve spent so long seeing ourselves through the eyes of those who could never recognize our beauty that we’ve forgotten how to see it ourselves. The right environment doesn’t ask you to become someone else. It simply gives you the space to become more of who you’ve always been. Love always, Sav #wldrthings
