The Outsiders the Musical winning the 2024 Tony for Best Musical was a no-brainer. If you’ve ever read the book or seen the movie, you were emotionally compromised from the start. So going into the musical I wasn’t sure what to expect as you have high expectations, but they hit it out of Tulsa big time. As a teenager, I was assigned the book and couldn’t put it down. Then I watched the movie on repeat. Now, here I am seeing the musical for the third time, still completely captivated and eager to spread the word to anyone who hasn’t experienced this beautiful, powerful, and deeply poignant story, told through the lens of a teenager we can all relate to in some way. One of my favorite things? The audience. Every time, it’s filled with teenagers, and they’re the first on their feet at curtain call. That says everything. The show delivers on every level. At first, the staging feels minimal, but then suddenly you’re immersed in a burning church, a moving train, a rain-soaked stage. It’s visually stunning. The songs are infectious, emotionally resonant, and perfectly aligned with the tone of the story. And the choreography? Think Newsies, but on coke. The energy is relentless, electric, and jaw-dropping. And then there’s the moment everyone talks about: the rumble. I won’t spoil it here (I’ll be posting it soon), but trust me, it’s cray cray. A knockout performance from the entire cast. Brava to them and to the creative team behind this extraordinary production. This is one of my favorite songs called
