@lisa.divass: A BBQ that’s been all about meat for over a decade… then one guest expected the entire menu to change for them. The host offered a separate grill instead, but now the family is divided. Was that a fair compromise? 🥩🌱 #AITA #FamilyDrama #VeganVsMeat #Storytime #Debate
When I was a vegan, I brought my own meals to gatherings. They should d the same.

A vegan having a vegan bbq would not offer meat options for those that wanted it... Because its a vegan bbq.

Technically OP didn't invite him, her sister did. My partner has a peanut allergy and if he can't guarantee no cross contamination he'll take his own rather then inconveniencing others

a decent person would say "no problem, we'll get some plant based burgers and sausages"

I was getting ready to say l fully agree with you until you basically said you were going to make him bring his own stuff. that's pretty shitty.

What does she mean full vegan meal? There is 1 person and just needs a few options.

Both being AHs. As a vegetarian, when invited to BBQs I used to take a few veggie burgers and ask if I could use the oven.

I think it’s rude of anybody who was invited to a party to think that their personal dietary needs should be met. There’s been plenty of events that I’ve gone to that. I’ve made sure that I have something I can eat with me in case the meal isn’t something that I will eat

I don't think the menu needed changing. Just add some vegan "meatlike" burgers or whatever and let him bbq them on a separate grill. some salads are available I pressume, so there you go.

being vegan isn't a dietary requirement like, for example, being allergic to nuts. being vegan is a choice as far as I know

I think the point here is that we was Not, in fact invited although he was welcome. There is a significant difference.

The whole event doesn’t need to change but offering a vegan option for him would be the right thing to do

I don’t understand what is expects her sister to change everything for her current boyfriend she could be generous, and I have some vegan options for him to have, but it’s not her responsibility to change her entire barbecue for one person
