HTTD: How’s Isaias Doing? UPDATE 1 - Hurricane Isaias: Well then, the North Atlantic’s newest storm that was recently named ‘Isaias’ by the NHC is now officially a Category 1 hurricane, becoming the first hurricane of the 2026 season for that basin and becoming the second-latest hurricane in the basin’s history, only being a day off from the latest hurricane ever recorded in 1905. The storm is currently undergoing a rapid intensification phase that is subject to continue as the storm threatens the U.S. South as a potential major hurricane, with a direct landfall expected by the latest hours of Friday. As of this moment, by our analysis, Hurricane Isaias currently has maximum sustained winds of up to 75mph (~120kph) with an estimated central air pressure of 982mb, moving east-northeast at an approximate speed of 9mph. Hurricane Isaias is currently about 160 miles (~255km) north-northwest from the northwestern tip of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, where minimal rainfall is currently being recorded. The NHC expects the storm to continue with its rapid intensification phase throughout Thursday and parts of Friday, where the storm is projected to reach Category 2 intensity by mid-Thursday, with the NHC predicting a peak intensity of 110mph (~175kph) hours before its landfall over the U.S. by late Friday. Due to Isaias's position over a favorable environment, we will make our own prediction of Isaias potentially becoming a major hurricane for a limited period, where it’ll weaken just before landfall due to wind shear caused by a northerly trough. Forecasting models are moderately confident with the NHC’s current forecast, although there is a split between traditional and A.I. models can be seen regarding Isaias’s landfall location in the U.S., with A.I. models leaning a landfall to be over Alabama or Florida, whereas traditional models are going for a Louisiana or Mississippi impact. Nonetheless, Isaias is likely to bring hurricane-force conditions towards most of the regions mentioned, with rainfall amounts forecast to be between 3 and 8 inches (~75 to 200mm). Future updates coming soon! #fyp #isaias #hurricaneisaias #hurricane #update
