It’s really that simple. He finally chose himself instead of constantly having to reassure someone who was always questioning his every move. He communicated with her the entire time, never played in her face, and was honest about where he stood. I genuinely don’t understand the narrative that he was sneaky.People are upset because he made a decision they didn’t like, not because he handled it poorly. It takes emotional maturity to understand why he made that choice. In my opinion, Anaya has some healing to do. Yes, she was hurt, but telling him to explore while emotionally punishing him every time he actually did is unfair. His laughter came across as discomfort, not disrespect. Imagine constantly reassuring someone, then getting made to feel guilty the moment you do something for yourself.

The truth is he never picked her, she always had to pick him, saying he didn’t even pick her at first means so much. It means he was pained she didn’t pick him from the start and also didn’t really want to be the bad guy. However, the problem isn’t the picking you can explore and do it respectfully saying shitty stuffs at her back is why people are mad. It’s not about picking someone else but do you have to be disrespectful to do that? definitely not.
