Tham Jang, Vang Vieng, Laos - Short. 4K 60FPS. Tham Jang (also spelled Tham Chang) is considered one of Vang Vieng’s most historically significant and accessible caves. Located roughly 2 kilometres south of the town centre, it is famous for its large chambers, well-lit paved walkways, and a stunning viewpoint overlooking the Nam Song River and the surrounding karst landscape. Essential Visitor Information (March 2026) Opening Hours: Typically 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM daily. Weekend hours may extend continuously from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Entrance Fees: Expect to pay in two stages. First, a 5,000 LAK fee to enter the resort/bridge area, followed by 15,000 LAK to enter the cave itself. Total cost is approximately 20,000–22,000 LAK. Best Time to Visit: The dry season (November to April) offers the best walking conditions. Visit in the early morning to avoid the largest tour groups. Historical Refuge: In the 19th century, locals used the cave as a bunker to hide from invaders during the Haw Wars. Its name, Jang, translates to "steadfast" or "unable to move," referring to the freezing spring water nearby that allegedly numbed the legs of those who bathed in it. Reaching the entrance requires climbing a steep staircase of roughly 147–200 steps. Once at the top, you are rewarded with a panoramic view of the Vang Vieng valley. At the foot of the cave, crystal-clear spring water flows out of the mountain. Visitors can swim in the cool, blue-tinted pool near the entrance. The Orange Bridge: The iconic bright orange footbridge over the Nam Song River is a popular photography spot and the primary gateway to the cave area. The cave is easily accessible from Vang Vieng's town centre: Walking: A leisurely 20-minute walk (approx. 2km) heading south along the river road. Bicycle/Motorbike: The most popular option; it takes about 10–12 minutes from the centre. Expect a small parking fee of roughly 3,000 LAK. Tuk-Tuk: Readily available in town for those preferring a quick ride.
