The first time Lena met Miu, she was carrying two theology books, one notebook, a bible with worn out edges, and an iced coffee that she spilled all over herself before reaching the classroom. "Oh no..." Miu stared at the growing stain on her white blouse. "This was the only clean one." Lena looked at her for exactly three seconds then silently took off her own hoodie. "Wear this." Miu blinked at her, clearly startled from the sudden kindness of a stranger. "What?" "I have another shirt in my dorm." "You'll get cold." "I'd rather be cold than watch you spend the whole lecture hiding behind your bag." Miu hesitated. "I'll wash it." "You don't have to." "I'll still wash it." Lena smiled. "Then I guess we're even." That was all. No dramatic music. No lightning. No instant realization. Just one borrowed hoodie. One awkward smile. And a coffee stain that neither of them would ever be grateful for until much later. - They became friends because of the library. Lena liked the silence. Miu liked the old wooden tables near the windows where the afternoon sun always settled. They somehow kept ending up at the same table. Studying different subjects. Sharing the same extension cord. Complaining about deadlines. It happened so often that eventually Miu stopped asking, "Is this seat taken?" She just simply sat down. Lena would slide a cup of coffee toward her without looking up. "No sugar." Miu smiled. "You remembered." "You always scrape it off anyway." "I don't like sweet coffee." "I know." It became a habit. The kind people mistake for something ordinary. Until one day, neither of them could remember when it had become impossible to study without the other nearby. "You know..." Miu closed her textbook one evening. "I used to think college would change me." Lena looked up from her laptop. "Did it?" "A little." "How?" "I thought I'd become brave." "You are." Miu laughed quietly. "You've never seen me volunteer for presentations." "I've seen you argue with professors." "That's different." "How?" "I was right." Lena smiled. "Fair point." Miu looked at her for a long moment before letting out a small smile. There was something peaceful about being with Lena. Not exciting. Not overwhelming. Just Peaceful. Like sitting beneath a tree after walking in the heat all day. She wondered if love was supposed to feel like that. And the thought of it frightened her. She closed her textbook a little harder this time. — It happened on a rainy Thursday. They were sharing one umbrella on the walk back to campus after buying fish balls from a street vendor. The sidewalk was too narrow. Their shoulders kept bumping into each other. Lena suddenly frowned. "You always walk on the side closest to the road." Miu looked down. "I do?" "Every time." "I never noticed." "I have." "Why?" Lena shrugged. "So if a car splashes water, It hits you first." Miu laughed. "That's a terrible reason." "It's practical." "You don't even like getting wet." "I don't." "So why?" Lena looked ahead. "Because I'd rather it be me." The words landed softly, almost casually. But Miu felt something inside her become painfully still. She looked away before Lena could notice. That night, Miu didn't sleep. She opened the Bible resting on her desk. Read a chapter. Closed it. Opened it again. Read the same words. They didn't stay in her mind. Her thoughts kept wandering. To Lena. To the umbrella. To the quiet way Lena always chose her comfort before her own. She pressed her palms over her eyes. "This isn't happening." She whispered it like a prayer or maybe like a plea. She began avoiding Lena the following week, not obviously, just enough to make excuses. "I already ate." "I have choir practice." "I promised my classmate I'd help with a project." Lena accepted every reason without complaint. She simply nodded. "Okay, next time." Always next time. Until one afternoon, Lena found Miu sitting alone in the campus chapel. The stained glass windows painted soft colors across the empty pews. Miu hadn't noticed her. -CONTINUATION 🔽- #lenamiu #lenalalina #miunatsha #oneshot #fyp
