IMMIGRATION DETAINS FIVE ETHIOPIANS IN KAPIRI, NABS 47 IN NDOLA AND LUSAKA OPERATIONS The Kapiri Mposhi Immigration Office has detained five Ethiopian nationals aged between 22 and 35 after they were apprehended by Police near Manyumbi Checkpoint on Sunday, 13th September 2026. The five were found at a farm approximately 2 kilometres after the Luanshimba Checkpoint, after the driver transporting them allegedly abandoned both the group and the vehicle. The farm owner alerted Police, who handed them over to Immigration Officers. Three had Ethiopian passports, one had an Ethiopian identification document, while one was undocumented. Three have been detained for failure to appear before an Immigration Officer upon entry and two for unlawful stay. The vehicle has been secured at Kapiri Mposhi Police Station, while the driver remains at large. Meanwhile, the Ndola Regional Immigration Office on 12th September 2026 apprehended 25 persons, comprising 18 adults and seven minors, during a compliance operation. Following screening, eight were released after producing the required documentation, while 10 were detained for various immigration offences. Other cases were dealt with administratively. On the same day, the Lusaka Regional Immigration Office apprehended 22 suspected prohibited immigrants, comprising 14 Burundians, seven Congolese and one Rwandese, during an operation conducted in various parts of Lusaka City. They remain detained pending screening and further immigration formalities. In a separate development, the Kafue Magistrate Court on 11th September 2026 convicted Katrige Mbigi (46), a Zimbabwean national, for unlawful entry, unlawful stay and concealing his true national identity. He was fined K4,500, K4,500 and K20,000 on the respective counts, bringing the cumulative fines to K29,000. In default, he will serve nine months simple imprisonment on each count, with the sentences running concurrently. He has since been committed to Lusaka Central Correctional Facility. Namati H.
