Take responsibility for your attitude, your behavior, your emotional maturity, and every area of your life that needs improvement. A person who refuses correction will struggle to build a healthy relationship. Love alone is not enough for a successful marriage. Don’t let anyone pressure you into marrying someone you know you cannot cope with simply because “love covers all things.” Marriage is a lifelong commitment, not a rehabilitation center. Being a pastor does not automatically make someone qualified to counsel people on marriage. Teaching Scripture and providing professional relationship counseling are not the same. Unless a person has the necessary training, experience, or a genuine gift for counseling, their advice should be weighed carefully. Choose a partner you can genuinely build a peaceful, healthy, and respectful life with, not someone you hope will change after the wedding.
