The European power grid is old and couldn’t handle most people had AC and I can guarantee you governments are not going to upgrade the grid because there is no profit for them

What is your point exactly? That china is cheaper than Europe? I am in Europe and installed AC earlier this year. During this heatwave it runs the whole day for free on the electricity of my solar panels. But the main reason for buying AC is heating in winter.

I did have AC installed, it took 3 hours of drilling through the concrete wall plus maybe an hour more for all the other installation. Obviously needed specialized tools and refrigerant. I can't imagine how installation can be cheap. The labor cost more than the unit and the unit was about 1500€

I get it; as an Australian there is a reason 40% of Australian homes still don’t have AC and even just 10-20 years ago brand new homes and apartments were still built with no AC. When you have a high cost, high wages, it’s just crazy expensive. However your government’s must work to ac your public transport, civic buildings, malls etc. at least in Aus when it was hot you could just go to the mall or cinema and cool down. London busses don’t even have ac and that’s fucked.

europe needs to massively invest in nuclear power instead of dismantling the reactors. As you see now during the current heatwave, once the sun goes down there's a massive decrease of electricity because solar panels don't generate anything. There's also barely any wind atm. As for the cost of an AC unit, isn't it because US houses are mostly made of wood so easy installation rather than having to drill through thick brick walls

Let me tell you the situation in my European country: In the year 1990 we got rid of communism and we had an electricity output 3x times higher than our necessary today, as the industry died out we closed many of the coal power plants but the numerous dams still remained opened. More than 20 years ago there was a push for privatization in the electricity sector(to push competition they say), so the sector was divided between many companies who acquired their parts at meaningless prices. These companies invested ZERO over the years but made billions. Fast forward to the curent day where under the excuse for the push for green energy many of our dams are being closed(dams built in the communist period, with very low maintenance costs, that were basically producing free energy) only to be replaced by expensive and unreliable solar energy. So the point is we want air conditioning, but the astronomical price of energy prices us out of the market.

People will find that they will use the AC for days other than extreme heat. Use it at night to sleep better, use it on days that are not hot but uncomfortably warm and humid.
