This is what makes him my favourite Avenger. Whilst Tony undergoes character development with changing the way he uses his weapons and his mind, Steve doesn’t get the same treatment. Instead, his morals are tested by the world around him. In the first avenger the world around him is pretty black and white but when he appears in the modern world he discovers that the world is full of shades of grey. His journey is his morals and ideology being tested and when he gets to Endgame he knows he can overcome any challenges because he is a good man. That knowledge is what allows him to choose a different life, the one he never thought he could have.

Tony's entire character arc is him realizing he isn't who he wants to be, and changing to become that man little by little.
