![Handling vague or unhelpful feedback… When we’re given poor quality feedback, it can be extremely frustrating. It leaves you unclear on what to do differently, and makes it harder to improve. In these moments, it’s easy to get defensive or push back, which can make it seem like we’re arguing. And unfortunately, that can sometimes lead the manager to double down or exert their authority, which means we lose control of the conversation. Instead, try to remain open and ask questions to better understand what they mean. For example: “Can you tell me a bit more about what that would look like?” “Happy to take that on board. Could you give me some examples of what [INSERT] would look like for you, so I’m really clear and can work on this?” Encouraging them to share examples will give you a much clearer picture of what they’re looking for. 💬 Have you ever been in this situation?
