@iamashleywhittaker: Sometimes you think you know what you’re doing and then you get humbled and learn some lessons along the way that helps shape the way you choose to parent. With every stage, I’m constantly learning new skills and working on understanding my son’s needs and wants a little better and this stage is no exception. We received his end of the year report card and he was disappointed in his grades. He’s already reflective and so hard on himself so there was no need for me to be hard on him too. Instead we had a great conversation about how sometimes grades slide and there are many factors that can affect that but instead of dwelling on it, we will stay positive, move forward and work a little harder next school year with better systems and more organization. Part of working harder includes building more confidence and having more focused communication sooner.
