We Ngฤti Porou women come from a strong lineage of leadership and service, with many senior lines, hapลซ and marae named after wฤhine. While Aunty wasnโ€™t a direct descendant of Ngฤti Porou, she was absolutely one rangatira such as those women โ€” full of leadership and mana. Te Kiingitanga honoured her with a tribute on social media, with the iconic waiata โ€œWahine Toaโ€ โ€” performed by Waka Huia for Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu at Matatini 1992. A perfect waiata for our lady. She was humble, often shy when it came to herself โ€” but fought fiercely till the end for all our tamariki and mokopuna. Her tangihanga reminded us of her kaupapa:โ€จโ€œKo ngฤ rangatahi ngฤ rangatira o te nฤianei.โ€ Ngฤ mihi to everyone who shared or paid tribute to Aunty Tarsh and whฤnau.
