You didn't mention that the reason the screen wasn't powering on was because you hadn't connected the power screen The ribbon is for video only the screen needs to be powered separately via USB or gpio pins on the raspberry pi.

Your display wouldn’t turn on bc you forgot to add the power cables. That’s the red & black. The ribbon cable is for the display source. It’s only for information not power.
