On March 22nd 1959, 20 year old, Oscar Hackett Neil Moss became jammed while trying to pass down a narrow unexplored tunnel in Stalagmite Chamber – now known as Moss Chamber in Peak Cavern. He was one of eight cavers who entered the Derbyshire cave that day. Once the cavers reached a large open chamber they found a narrow unexplored shaft that was around 40ft deep and had a corkscrew twist in the middle of it that would be difficult to navigate. Moss was the first to descend into the shaft, when he became stuck after moving a boulder that trapped the ladder used by the other cavers to help pull him up. Moss became completely wedged just below the corkscrew section of the passage, in a gap only eighteen inches wide, he was also unable to move his arms at all. Because his body was jammed inside the narrow passage, he was blocking the air flow inside of it, meaning the atmosphere was quickly becoming overwhelmed by carbon dioxide from his own respiration. Moss became increasingly disorientated due to the lack of oxygen, before eventually completely losing consciousness. A number of experienced cavers who were small enough to fit inside the tunnel tried to assist in the mission to free Moss, but struggled to get close to him. Following the failure of the final rescue attempt, Neil Moss was declared de*d on the morning of 24th March, 1959. The student's father, Eric, had spent 48 hours waiting for news on his son's fate at the entrance of the cave and urged rescuers to leave his son to rest inside of it so that no other lives were put at risk. The entrance to the lower shaft was sealed with loose rocks from the chamber, while an inscription in dedication to Moss was later added nearby - and now, this section of Peak Cavern is known as Moss Chamber. #truecrime #scary #cave #scarystories #animation #fyp #viral_video #foryoupage
